Faythe Vollrath, Harpsichord:
Music for Halloween by Bach, Couperin, Scarlatti, Rameau, and more
Immerse yourself in the Halloween season with the eerie and spooky sounds of the harpsichord. Spine-chilling chords and cackling runs bring alive a concert of things that go bump in the night, with black cats, monsters, and even compositions written by spirits. Featuring works by J.S. Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Francois Couperin, and many more, almost entirely deceased, composers.
Faythe Vollrath, a Californian native, is well-known to Bay Area audiences, and last played on the Barefoot Series with her harpsichord duo Zweikampf in a memorable program in 2014. This time she returns as a soloist with an equally memorable program designed especially for Halloween. We are no great admirers of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ music or his opinions, but even he infamously noticed that harpsichords can sound thrillingly scary.
