Carla Moore: “Violino Solo Senza Basso”

Bach’s Sonata # 1 and other works for violin

“Violino Solo Senza Basso”
showcases sonata #1 of J.S. Bach’s celebrated unaccompanied sonatas for violin, as well as several works that in fluenced this famous collection, and a sonata that was inspired by it.

This program brings together three German composers and violinists who all met in Weimar in the early 1700’s and became friends. Their works for unaccompanied violin influenced each other and form the mainstay of unaccompanied violin literature from this time. Pieces will include a suite by Johann Paul von Westhoff, a sonata by Johann Georg Pisendel, and Bach’s Sonata No. 1-all for unaccompanied violin. The program will conclude with a modern composition by Ted Allen.

Carla Moore needs no introduction to Bay Area fans of baroque music. Her playing was described by Strad magazine as possessing “unerring musicality”. Carla moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from New York City in 1991 when she joined Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. She now serves as one of PBO’s concertmasters and soloists, performs and solos with American Bach Soloists, and serves as concertmaster of the Portland Baroque Orchestra (Oregon).

The program will be approximately 75 minutes with no intermission. The usual light refreshments will be available. Kids are very welcome if quiet, and admission under 18 is free. Light refreshments are available before, during, and after the concert. There will be ample time to move on to other evening entertainments.
